Community Sponsored Gift Fund

Description

This is a particularly tough time for so many in our community. Inspired by the generous offers from some of our friends who wanted to give to someone in need, we are creating a Community-Sponsored Gift Fund. We are especially wanting to help get craft supplies to folks in our community who are suffering from job/income-loss, illness, or isolation right now.

Here’s how it works:

  • Choose any amount you’d like to give. You can choose more than one if you want to create an amount you don’t see there.
  • If you want to send a gift to someone you know who is struggling, or if you need help for yourself, email us at seattleyarn@gmail.com and use the subject line “Community Sponsored Gift” in your email.
  • We will use funds to cover or partially cover sending yarn or other craft supplies from our store. Anything we have in stock is eligible.
  • We will limit gift amounts so that we can offer to as many people as we can, but we hope we can be generous enough to make a difference.

We know this is a small thing. We know these are not essentials. However, we also believe in craft as a useful skill, a creative art, a mental health aid, and a way to connect community. For many, especially those who are older, disabled, or health/immune-compromised, fiber arts and crafts are a particularly significant activity right now.

That said, we encourage you, if you are giving, to also help organizations providing aid to people who need basics like food and shelter. In our local community, West Seattle Food Bank and Mary’s Place are always doing good work, and are organizations we’ve supported in an ongoing way.
